Dan Chavez joins the Santa Cruz HIO as its first Executive Director. Dan will work with the board of directors to meet the mission and vision of the organization as it assists the community in critical health information data sharing for whole person care. As one of the oldest HIOs in the country, SCHIO actively serves hundreds of thousands of Santa Cruz county residents connecting critical data for care coordination. Dan’s leadership and rich history in developing and expanding HIOs will assist SCHIO in reaching new programs and participants inside and outside Santa Cruz County. He will work closely with Bill Beighe and team who have provided national leadership in health information exchange.

We look forward to his leadership, expertise and local presence for Santa Cruz HIO. Dan’s previous experience includes more than 35 years of healthcare information technology (HIT) experience. He has an extensive track record of cultivating startups, business development and product marketing in the HIT space. Previously, he served as the founding executive director of San Diego Health Connect, the health information exchange, HIE, in San Diego and Imperial Counties. Dan served on the 211 San Diego, Community Information Exchange San Diego, Strategic HIE Collaborative (SHIEC) and Destination Care San Diego boards. He holds a BA from San Jose State University and an MBA from Stanford University.”
Dan remarks, “I am enthusiastic about working and living in the Santa Cruz community and interfacing with the leadership in this public/private partnership to advance health information exchange in the County and beyond.”
Dan begins his work as the Executive Director March 1, 2022.
